Executive Director of Wyoming Taxpayers Association to Speak at UW March 20

Ashley Harpstreith, executive director of the Wyoming Taxpayers Association, will speak about the relationship between Wyoming’s mineral industry and the state revenue system, as well as the benefits to Wyoming citizens, from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, in Room 138 of the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center at the University of Wyoming.

The free lunch presentation is part of the School of Energy Resources (SER) Distinguished Speaker Series. Interested students, members of the campus community and the public are invited to attend.

“The Distinguished Speaker Series at SER is meant to connect our community -- especially our campus community -- with experts across a wide variety of topics that intersect with energy,” says SER Director of Outreach Christine Reed. “We are very excited to host Ms. Harpstreith to talk about how the energy industry directly impacts every single person in Wyoming, generating the majority of the state’s revenue and supporting infrastructure, education and other critical services.”

A UW alumna, Harpstreith earned her B.S. in communications with an emphasis in public relations in 2003. She has extensive experience in business and workforce development and has led the Wyoming Taxpayers Association, which provides the essential connection and information between the state’s taxpayers and the Legislature, since 2019. Before joining the association, Harpstreith was CEO of Goshen County Economic Development Corp., where she managed a countywide economic development effort that included the Goshen County Chamber of Commerce, Goshen County Tourism Promotions, Visitors Center and Main Street programming.

“I appreciate the School of Energy Resources providing a platform to discuss the importance of the revenues our legacy industries provide to the state of Wyoming,” Harpstreith says. “I look forward to discussing those local impacts and providing a new perspective through The Cowboy Family research project.”
