Horse Camp

Horse Camp

4-H Horse Camp is open to all Wyoming 4-H Club Members, Parents, 4-H Leaders, and Wyoming Extension Personnel. The educational programs presented at Horse Camp are designed to provide practical, hands-on training.  The major emphasis of the camp is to improve safe riding and handling skills.

Camp Information

Camp Information
  • Dates: June 15-17, 2018
  • Location: Wyoming State Fairgrounds, Douglas, WY.
  • Youth Registration
    • Limited to 80 youth participants and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
    • Due 06/08/2018 before 5:00pm.
    • Information Packet- check back in late May for the 2018 packet.
    • 2018 Shirt Design - check back in late May 2018
  • Instructor Application
    • Due 05/25/2018 before 5:00pm.
  • Rules:
    • In an effort to promote a safer, more educational environment for our youth, riding will be limited to youth and instructors only.
    • All adults staying in the dorms must be successfully screened through the Wyoming 4-H Volunteer Screening Process. Screening information, details, and forms are available from your local County Extension 4-H Educator.
    • Traveling across county and state lines with horses
  • Tentative Agenda
    • Thursday 06/14/18 - early check in available (time to be determined)
    • Friday 06/15/18 - check in from 7:30 am; program starts at 9:00 am
    • Saturday 06/16/18 - program starts at 8:00 am
    • Sunday 06/17/18 - program starts at 8:00 am for a half day practice show

All of the activities and presentations are designed to help accomplish the following:
  • For the participants to enjoy themselves and have fun
  • For the participants to learn and understand horse safety
  • For the participants to enhance their horsemanship abilities
  • To improve basic horse knowledge through skill-a-thons
  • To improve the skills of 4-H Members in areas such as basic seat & balance, control, turn on haunches, forehand, reining, showmanship, ranch riding, elements of English and more.
