American Youth Leadership Program with Samoa

What are the expectations for participants?

 

 

 

 
 

Youth Participants

  • Secure a U.S. passport
  • Have parents/guardians permission to participate in the entire program, including orientation, exchange trip, and post-program activities
  • Participate in pre-trip orientation, August 4-7, 2013 at the University of Wyoming in Laramie
  • Participants will complete a medical information, permission to travel, and behavior agreement form
  • Complete a follow-on project in their local community to be carried out after the exchange trip
  • Submit local program-related media releases/publicity to program administrators
  • Submit a follow-on project final report to program administrators

 

Adult Participants

  • Secure a U.S. passport
  • Assist in conducting the pre-trip orientation and educational programs during the exchange
  • Be flexible and positive regarding schedule changes
  • Encourage youth to try new experiences and respect cultural stereotypes, traditions, etc.
  • Fulfill the chaperone role and participate with youth throughout the exchange
  • Account for the youth participants in your chaperone group
  • During the host family stay, touch base with youth on a regular basis to check on their experience as well as mental and physical well-being.
  • Monitor and administer medications to youth during large group times
  • Support youth participants with their follow-on activities
