UW Stable Isotope Facility open house this Friday
An open house to showcase the University of Wyoming’s Stable Isotope Facility is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
The facility, in room 2023 Ag C building in the College of Agriculture’s Department of Renewable Resources, underwent major renovations and upgrades this past year. It is now equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and specialized sample preparation equipment to provide high-quality stable isotope analyses. Besides developing novel isotope techniques, it also serves as a hands-on teaching facility for UW students and researchers.
The facility is equipped with four mass spectrometers configured for the analysis of hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen isotopes. Stable isotopes integrate, indicate, record, and trace fundamental environmental and biological processes. Application of stable isotopes to physical, chemical, and biological problems is rapidly expanding and now is one of the primary tools applied in archeology, ecology, climatology, and geology.
Shikha Sharma joined the Department of Renewable Resources as a permanent research scientist and is the associate director and manager of the facility.
“If you would like to learn more about our instrumentation and capabilities, do attend this open house,” says Sharma.
Refreshments will be provided.
