UW experts among presenters at groundskeepers, growers conference
University of Wyoming experts in greenhouses, weeds, turf, and soil quality are among those presenting information at the Wyoming Groundskeepers and Growers Association (WGGA) conference Jan. 17-19 in Casper.
Directed toward professionals in horticulture and the green industry, the conference is at the Parkway Plaza Hotel and Convention Centre. Information is available at www.wgga.org. Seminars range from pruning, greenhouses, irrigation systems, cut flowers, soil health, weeds, and turf grass to pesticides and gravestone restoration, among others.
“Membership is incredibly diverse. It is the only professional horticultural association in Wyoming,” said Karen Panter, University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service horticulturalist in the College of Agriculture. Panter is also the university’s liaison with the WGGA and will present information on greenhouse location, structures and covers.
Also presenting from the college are Justin Moss, director of the Sheridan Research and Extension Center, on specialty cut flower trials and the national turf grass evaluation program; Stephen Enloe, extension weed specialist, on weed identification; and Kelli Belden, who heads the Soil Testing Laboratory in the college, on salt and sodium in Wyoming soils.
The convention has a trade show, and there will be educational booths.
