The Mulloy Lecture is one of the Department's major annual public events held in the spring semester. This lecture series named after our founding faculty member, Dr. William Mulloy, rotates through the four subfields of Anthropology. It is supported by an endowment created by Audrey Shalinsky, a longtime faculty member, Department Head, and Associate Dean.
Current levels of wealth inequality in the United States are at historically high levels. But are they so unusual in the really long term? Archaeology affords a perspective on inequality all over the world going back thousands of years that allows us to see large-scale patterns that have not been recognized before. We‘ll then zoom in on the northern US Southwest where abundant and well-dated evidence helps us see decadal dynamics in equality, revealing its highly patterned relationships with climate change and conflict.
