Sept. 13, 2007 -- Artists in post-war Russia will be featured in “Forbidden Art: The Postwar Russian Avant-Garde” Saturday, Sept. 15, at the University of Wyoming Art Museum. An opening reception for the exhibition is the day before from 6-8 p.m.

An art talk and open forum for the exhibition, hosted by Gerald Janecek, professor of Russian history from the University of Kentucky, is Saturday at 11 a.m. Stephen Norris from Miami University will host an additional gallery walk and art talk Monday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m.

All events are free and open to the public.

“Forbidden Art” examines the influences and ways that nonconformist artists in post-war Russia expressed their reactions to social realist ideology. The exhibition provides a framework to explore and understand this period of Russian art history.

The Art Museum is located in the Centennial Complex at 22nd and Willett Drive in Laramie. The museum and store are open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m with hours extended until 9 p.m. on Mondays from September through November. Admission is free.

For more information, contact Mollie Hand Steinke, UW Art Museum publicist, at (307) 766-6841 or e-mail mhand4@uwyo.edu.
