Laramie Artist Dolega Contributes to UW Sculpture Exhibition | |
Aug. 14, 2008 -- Laramie artist Stan Dolega will install a new sculpture Thursday, Aug. 21, at Optimist Park as part of the University of Wyoming's "Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational."
Dolega's sculpture, titled "Veedauwoo Modernized," is inspired by the rock formations of Veedauwoo near Laramie and will be constructed with steel, flagstone and boulders. The sculpture measures 10 feet wide by 10 feet long and stands six feet high.
"Veedauwoo Modernized" will be one of 18 works to comprise "Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational," a public art exhibition on the UW campus and in Laramie. The exhibition, organized by the UW Art Museum, officially opens Friday, Sept. 12, with a reception in Prexy's Pasture and continues through July 2009.
Dolega has created earthworks at locations across the United States, including Dayton, Ohio, Detroit, Mich., and Wenatchee, Wash. His works range from 64 feet long to a quarter of an acre, with varying elevations. His largest outdoor work is in Hanna, where he created an earthwork to serve as both a sanitary landfill and recreation site.
The UW Art Museum is located in the Centennial Complex at 22nd and Willett Drive in Laramie. The museum and store are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free.
