What is UWStudent Lab System Classfiles?

Classfiles is a file storage location that provides instructors with space to save course related materials for their students to access.

Where is Classfiles located?

Classfiles is located at: \\\classfiles$.

Under the main Classfiles folder there are various department folders containing class materials.

On a student lab node, students can map a drive to the above location or they can type the path into the Windows search bar.

From off-campus, Classfiles can be accessed through the WyoSecure VPN.

I am a student and need access to Classfiles. How do I gain access?

All enrolled students are granted ‘read' access to Classfiles. If you are not able to access Classfiles, email the Academic Support Unit at

I am an instructor and need to be able to modify or copy files to Classfiles storage. How do I gain access?

Instructors who need to be able to modify or copy files to Classfiles will need to write an email to and request access. The email should include the name and call number of the class. The Academic Support Unit will verify the instructor of the class requested and then grant access.

Is there a size limit on Classfiles?

There is currently no specific limit to the amount of space that can be used on Classfiles. The space is monitored and if excessive use is detected, the owner of the materials will be contacted to verify the space is being used appropriately.
