Extension
educator joins Carbon/Albany county team
Sarah Francis will join the Carbon County University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) office Nov. 6 as area extension educator for nutrition and food safety in Albany and Carbon counties.
“We were specifically looking for a candidate with a strong background in nutrition to assist residents in this two-county area,” said Susan James, UW CES federal relations and staff development coordinator. “Sarah’s education and experience will be a great addition to the area team.”
Francis received a doctorate in nutrition in 2004 from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. She has a master’s degree in health sciences with nutrition emphasis in 2000 from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C., and a bachelor’s degree in foods and nutrition in 1998 from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. Francis is also a registered dietician.
For the past two years, Francis worked as a community health educator as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Turkmenistan. She designed a national nutrition campaign that is being implemented by fellow volunteers. James said she brings extensive cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment knowledge as well as food safety and adequate food supply teaching experience to the position.
