The Good Mule Project is an event series at the University of Wyoming fostering a community of dialogue and action through the lens of activism.
The Good Mule Project’s name recognizes the steadfast and resilient nature of the mule. Our communities are facing vast and complex issues and are in need of individuals with personal stories, ideas, and talents to be committed to the continual process required of creating positive change through activism. The Good Mule Project seeks to impart the nature of the mule onto such individuals we encounter as activists.
April is Earth month, so we'll be diving into one of Edward Abbey's most popular works, Desert Solitaire.
Desert Solitaire is a collection of vignettes about life in the wilderness and the
nature of the desert itself by park ranger and conservationist, Edward Abbey. The
book details the unique adventures and conflicts the author faces, from dealing with
the damage caused by development of the land or excessive tourism, to discovering
a dead body. However Desert Solitaire is not just a collection of one man’s stories,
the book is also a philosophical memoir, full of Abbey’s reflections on the desert
as a paradox, at once beautiful and liberating, but also isolating and cruel. Often
compared to Thoreau’s Walden, Desert Solitaire is a powerful discussion of life’s
mysteries set against the stirring backdrop of the American southwestern wilderness.

This People's Supper we'll focus on what a healthy community & support system looks like and how you can build those support systems. Folks will discuss the benefits of community, how to build community, and discuss what community looks like in our day-to-day lives.
