The Honors Program at the University of Wyoming is a program uniquely suited to the idea that students can develop themselves into leading successful and fulfilling professional and personal lives through a system that prepares them in a manner that transcends traditional education. We are a supportive group of faculty from across the university, talented and competitive students who come from all fields of study, and a community that treasures ambition and the concept that students should take an active role in their education.
As with states all across the nation, the number of English Language Learners is increasing at rates higher than any other social group in the state of Wyoming. The need to address the specific educational issues and challenges these students face by way of culturally and linguistically responsive professional practices is of critical importance to the vitality of our classrooms, schools, and communities. The UW Writing Center is part of a national network of writing centers that provide writing instruction and links to writing resources. Although individual, face-to-face conferences comprise the backbone of their work, they also meet with small groups and even whole classes on every aspect of the writing process. Writers can come in at any time in the writing process (brainstorming, development, rough draft, revisions, etc.) to discuss their work with interested and experienced writing teachers. The goal of The Writing Center is to suggest writing and revising strategies writers can apply to more than just one piece of writing.
