The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust has granted nearly $1.6 million to the University of Wyoming College of Health Sciences to train Wyoming health care professionals on state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment as part of a statewide ultrasound initiative.
The initiative includes nearly $13.9 million to help Wyoming hospitals and health centers purchase ultrasound imaging devices and boost sonography and point-of-care ultrasound training opportunities across the state. UW’s Wyoming Point-of-Care Ultrasound Training Initiative (WY-POCUTI) both broadens the scope of training in specialty ultrasound and bolsters access to and the quality of point-of-care ultrasound services.
Two major gifts totaling $4 million from philanthropist couple Ann Pickard and Dan Smith to the University of Wyoming will support literacy across the state and first-generation students.
The first, a planned gift of $2 million, supports the endowment Nathan’s Gift -- A Literacy and Special Education Excellence Fund. The fund was established in 2018 to honor Pickard and Smith’s son, Nathan. The second, also a planned gift of $2 million, supports the endowment Ann Pickard and Dan Smith President’s Endowed Scholarship for First-Generation Students. This fund was established in 2019 to honor Pickard and Smith’s journey as first-generation students themselves.
A $250,000 gift to the University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources from energy infrastructure leader Williams will advance carbon capture, utilization and storage within the state and beyond.
This gift supports the newly created Carbon Dioxide Storage Excellence Fund, which will provide increased flexibility in addressing key challenges for the near, medium and long term. Most immediately, the excellence fund will provide support needed for current projects to transition from research and demonstration to commercialization. The charitable contribution will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the state of Wyoming and will jump-start the program with immediately expendable funds.
