UW Foundation Honored in the CASE Circle of Excellence Awards

2012 Annual ReportThe University of Wyoming Foundation has earned a silver award in the 2013 CASE Circle of Excellence awards, which honor superior fundraising programs across the country.

A panel of experts selected the UW Foundation’s FY2012 annual report, which celebrates the foundation’s 50th anniversary of partnership with the University of Wyoming, from among 45 entries in the Annual Reports and Fund Reports category.

One of the world’s largest nonprofit educational associations, CASE—or the Council for Advancement and Support of Education—is an international professional association serving educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf.

CASE serves more than 3,600 universities, colleges, schools and related organizations in 76 countries and is the leading resource for professional development, information, and standards in the fields of alumni relations, communications, education fundraising and marketing.

This year, 615 higher education institutions, independent schools and nonprofits from around the world submitted more than 2,900 entries in 45 categories for consideration in the Circle of Excellence awards program. Judges gave 281 bronze, silver and gold awards. Nineteen institutions received the top prize of a grand gold award.

In the fiscal year ending June 30, the UW Foundation raised a record $56 million in private support from 25,245 donors.  This total eclipses UW’s previous high year mark in 2011 of $43.1 million.

Philanthropy provides UW an important extra margin of support that builds upon the university’s public funding, and assets managed by the foundation have grown significantly over the years and have allowed donors to support an expanding number of students, faculty, and academic programs during times when many universities have had to cut back.

Established in 1962, the University of Wyoming Foundation is an independent nonprofit corporation appointed by the UW Board of Trustees to raise, receive, and manage private gifts to maximize support for the University of Wyoming. The foundation partners with UW to enhance the university’s programs and projects to meet current and future needs through private giving.
