Scholarships and Financial Aid for Study Abroad

The University of Wyoming has many different funding opportunities to help make Education Abroad a possibility.

The Richard B. and Lynne V. Cheney Study-Abroad Scholarship Fund is the largest land-grant university study abroad scholarship endowment in the nation!

  • Richard and Lynne Cheney Study Abroad Grants are travel grants that assist students in covering costs for international and in-country travel during their study abroad. Recipients demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

  • Richard and Lynne Cheney Fellowship for Excellence in Study are large, prestigious awards that are awarded to outstanding students with strong records of academic excellence and the potential for enhanced professional development while abroad. The Fellowship serves as a full stipend for the recipients’ abroad experience. Candidates are considered based on their objectives in going abroad and the extent to which they have demonstrated the commitment and potential to make a significant contribution to their field via international study or research.

Over 2,000 students have benefitted from the Cheney Funds since 2007!

One of the best ways to search and apply for UW scholarships is through WyoScholarships. Search “Study Abroad” find the Cheney scholarships and departmental study abroad scholarships. Most UW scholarships have moved to WyoScholarships

If you file a FAFSA, all federal funding can be applied to the costs of participating in a UWapproved program or exchange university. Most scholarships, grants, and private funding resources are accepted for either study abroad or exchanges. Always meet with UW’s Financial Aid Office to verify your aid package and whether any restrictions apply.
