May 11, 2007 -- David S. Cozzens, associate vice president for student affairs at the University of Wyoming, has accepted an appointment to also serve as the university’s dean of students, subject to approval by the UW Board of Trustees. He had served as the interim dean of students since last August.

A reorganization of units in the Division of Student Affairs led to changes that will have Cozzens leading a cluster of units including the Dean of Students office, the Campus Recreation Department, the Student Health Service and the University Counseling Center, says Sara Axelson, UW vice president for student affairs.

Cozzens, who was appointed as associate vice president last September, had served six years as director of the University Counseling Center. Axelson says a search will be conducted to identify a permanent Counseling Center director.

Prior to his arrival at UW in 2001, Cozzens spent 20 years working as a faculty member, a licensed psychologist, and in counseling center and student affairs administration at Memphis State University and Ohio Wesleyan University. He also served as a community psychological evaluator and the director of an employee assistance program in central Ohio.

He received B.S. (1973) and M.A. (1978) degrees in psychology from UW and a Ph.D. (1990) in counseling psychology from the University of North Dakota.
