UW Presidential Search Committee Named

Printable Article Email this Article

Oct. 14, 2005 -- Four prominent Wyomingites, a student, a staff member, a faculty member, and an administrator have been named to the search committee that will help choose the next University of Wyoming president. These eight join five UW trustees previously named to the committee by Trustee President Judy Richards.

"This was a difficult decision," says Richards, "because all the names that came forward were highly qualified and respected. Each of the 73 nominees could easily have been selected to serve in this most important process.

"I want to thank, in particular, the leadership of UW's Staff Senate, student government, and Faculty Senate for their thoughtfulness in recommending truly outstanding representatives for the committee," says Richards. "I know that they and the constituent members, who represent broad segments of the Wyoming community, will do their utmost to help the UW Board of Trustees select the best possible individual as we choose the next president of the University of Wyoming."

Constituent members selected by Richards are:

Carol Frost, professor, UW Department of Geology and Geophysics;
Patricia McClurg, dean, UW College of Education;
Mick McMurry, UW alumnus, Casper businessman, and philanthropist;
Frank Mendicino, UW alumnus, attorney, and former chairman of the UW Foundation Board;
Gary Negich, president, First Interstate Bank, Laramie and member of the Laramie Economic Development Corporation, serving two years as board chairman;
Milton Ontiveroz, member of the UW Media Relations staff;
Ashley Spear, UW student from Cheyenne, majoring in architectural engineering, member of UW Honors Program and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority; and
Roy Whitney, Wheatland- and New York-based investment banker, chairman of the UW Foundation Board, and philanthropist.

Trustees previously named to the Presidential Search Committee are David Palmerlee, Buffalo, chairman; Taylor Haynes, Cheyenne; Tom Spicer, Rock Springs; Hank True, Casper; and Richards.

Also assisting with the search is Bill Funk of the consulting firm Korn/Ferry International.
