Nov. 2, 2005 -- Handsome and talented University of Wyoming men will strut their stuff on stage to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina during a Mr. Wyoming Pageant Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.

Kappa Kappa Gamma (KKG) sorority will host the pageant. Tickets cost $3 before the event, and $4 at the door. For more information, call Ella Wellman, KKG president, at 766-8521.

The men competing for the title of Mr. Wyoming will be judged according to their performance in four categories: formal wear, health and lifestyle, fundraising and talent. This humorous male beauty pageant will feature representatives from UW athletics teams, fraternities and student organizations.

"KKG encourages everyone to come support the efforts to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina while enjoying this fun event,” says Jennifer Hardy, KKG philanthropy chair. “It is for a good cause and will be fun to watch how competitive the contestants get."

For the fundraising portion of the pageant, a table will be placed in the Wyoming Union where tickets will be sold and donations will be taken. Jars with the contestants' pictures will be set out where donations can be made to benefit the Red Cross. The amount each contestant raises will be taken into account during the judging process.

KKG raised more than $1,000 for the Red Cross during a Mr. Wyoming Pageant in 2003. Janice Gahagen, Albany County Red Cross manager, says the funds allowed the Albany County Red Cross chapter to remain open at that time.
