March 15, 2004 -- University of Wyoming residence hall students raised more than $3,550 in a recent "Penny Wars" campaign to assist the Albany County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Prizes were awarded to the residence hall and the floor that donated the most money. McIntyre Hall raised the highest total amount of pennies, minus silver and paper money donations. McIntyre's 11th and sixth floors, respectively, were the top individual fundraisers.

"The students did a phenomenal job, they really helped us out," says Janice Gahagan, manager of the local Red Cross office. "With the funding, coupled with donations from an earlier campaign conducted by Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, we have received more than $5,000 from the young adults on the university campus. We commend them for the outstanding support they have given us."

The Albany County Red Cross chapter offers many services including disaster assistance, swimming classes, first aid and CPR training, hospital patient services, service to military families and numerous other community assistance programs.
