Film Series Scroll down to find the link to the film series schedule. Most of these films are FREE (the three that are part of the Laramie Film Society’s fall series entail admission) and all are open to the public. We have listed films that are being presented by other organizations as a part of this film series because we believe they are interesting and thought-provoking documentaries that our viewers might also appreciate. Films are presented by (for specific sponsorship information for each film, click on each film’s title on the film schedule to reach its page) The Laramie Progressive Action Collective (a student organization at UW) and Stand Up for Peace (a community peace advocacy group). Some films promoted here are part of the Laramie Film Society’s fall art film series. Fahrenheit 9-11 is brought to you buy the Student Activities Council (U.W. student government programming committee). Unconstitutional is brought to you by The Laramie Progressive Action Collective, Stand Up for Peace, the WY ACLU, and the national ACLU. None of the organizations involved specifically endorse any or all of the views presented in these provocative films or those supported by other organizations through their specific sponsorship of a particular film. Viewer discretion and critical discernment are advised. |

RATIONALE: Michael Moore’s film Fahrenheit 9-11 was met nationwide by protests from conservatives who objected to the film. Yet media accounts consistently revealed that most of these individuals had never even seen the film and had no intention of seeing it. Though Fahrenheit 9-11 has broken every film record in American history for a documentary film and has been widely acclaimed by film critics, many formed judgments based upon secondary opinions of others. While Fahrenheit is explicitly partisan agitprop and Moore’s film style is provocative and sensationalistic, the film is largely factual (there are links below that help debunk myths surrounding the film). Those who have not seen the film should not judge it. They should exercise critical discernment and think for themselves, making up their own minds after viewing it. “You can’t judge a film without seeing it.” Unfortunately, it is difficult for many Wyoming residents to have the opportunity to do so because these sorts of films aren’t often shown in theatres or available in video rental stores in most Wyoming communities. It is in this interest that the Laramie Progressive Action Collective, a recognized student organization on the University of Wyoming campus in Laramie has organized a political, liberal film series this fall, including Fahrenheit (brought to you buy the Student Activities Council). We’d like to invite readers to attend our film series (almost all of the films are free and open to the public) in Laramie and make up their own minds… |
