Feel disenfranchised and marginalized in Wyoming as a political minority?

You can help prevent voting rights abuses in Colorado by monitoring polling places.

LPAC is trying to organize a group of individuals who are interested in helping monitor polling locations for voting rights violations and document voter intimidation and suppression in Colorado.

While Colorado typically has gone to the GOP candidate, recent polls show that Colorado is evenly divided between Bush and Kerry.  Because of the same, and because so many swing states are so evenly divided, even Colorado’s five electoral votes are sorely needed by both parties.  Both political parties are intensely focusing their efforts in Colorado and other states.  Because of the importance of this next election and its high stakes, civil rights experts are predicting voter intimidation and voting rights abuses in Colorado.  We need your help to safeguard democracy!

WHY?

Because this is the most important election of our lifetimes.  Because of the courts and lifetime judicial vacancies, whoever wins the White House will be largely determining policy for the remainder of our natural lives through judicial appointments.  Both parties understand that, and the GOP has showed a strategic penchant for the deliberate disenfranchisement of politically profiled voters in the 2000 election.  Michigan State Representative John Pappageorge articulated this consciousness of the GOP when he said that the GOP would fare poorly in this year’s elections if it failed to suppress the black vote.  He, of course, immediately recanted and issued an apology.  Two of our films will thoroughly and credibly document precisely that the GOP targeted black voters for disenfranchisement in 2000 in the state of Florida:  Unprecedented, and Counting on Democracy.

WHAT?

You would be an Election Protection volunteer working with the national organization People for the American Way that works to counter and monitor the political right and its strategies.  You’d be literally making history.  You would be documenting voting irregularities for potential litigation and creating a historical record of them and also protecting the civil right of franchise for every American citizen regardless of their party.  You’d work with LPAC’s project coordinator for this project Jessica Coughlin to monitor polling locations in Denver, Fort Collins, and the surrounding region.   We’d hope to organize a caravan/carpool to specific polling locations in coordination with People for the American Way.

YOU’D GO TO COLORADO AFTER VOTING EARLY ON NOV. 2 OR AFTER YOU’VE VOTED BY ABSENTEE BALLOT HERE.

WHERE?

Colorado.  We’d hope to organize a caravan/carpool to specific polling locations in coordination with People for the American Way.

WHEN?

Super Tuesday, November 2, 2004 (specific times and details are yet undetermined)

HOW DO I TAKE PART?

E-mail Project Coordinator Jessica Coughlin at jessicacoughlin@msn.com if you are interested.  Please e-mail her ASAP.  If there is little or no interest in this project, it will be abandoned.

Please keep this number handy, and forward it via e-mail to everyone you know from whom you’ve obtained prior consent to send political forwards, etc.  It’s a toll-free hotline so that voters can report voter intimidation, voting rights abuses, voter fraud, illegal ballots, etc…  1-866-OUR-VOTE

Also, if you are voting in a state/voting district with unverifiable and insecure touch screen machines, you are encouraged to vote by absentee ballot to ensure that your vote is cast and that there is a way to verify your vote (unlike with electronic touch screen machines).
