On Sabbatical Spring 2024

Professor Robison is a faculty member in the College of Law’s Environmental, Energy, and Natural Resources law program, as well as an adjunct professor in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. Professor Robison holds an S.J.D. from Harvard Law School and also has earned an LL.M. from Harvard Law School, a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law, and a B.S. in environmental studies from the University of Utah. Prior to joining the UW faculty, Professor Robison clerked for the Oregon Supreme Court, as well as held positions with the Harvard Water Security Initiative, the Emmett Environmental Law and Policy Clinic at Harvard Law School, the Colorado River Governance Initiative at the University of Colorado, the Special Litigation Unit of the Oregon Department of Justice, and the Motions Department and Office of Appellate Legal Counsel of the Oregon Court of Appeals.

Professor Robison’s writing revolves around water, public lands, and Native peoples within western North America, as well as comparative and international projects in these areas. He is the editor of Cornerstone at the Confluence: Navigating the Colorado River Compact's Next Century, a multi-disciplinary volume published by University of Arizona Press for the historic compact’s 2022 centennial, and the lead editor of Vision & Place: John Wesley Powell & Reimagining the Colorado River Basin, a multi-disciplinary volume published by University of California Press examining water, public lands, and Native Americans in the basin upon the 1869 Powell Expedition’s sesquicentennial. Professor Robison also authors the treatise Law of Water Rights and Resources. Recent and forthcoming journal articles include Relational River: Arizona v. Navajo Nation & the Colorado, Re-Indigenizing Yellowstone, and Community in the Colorado River Basin. Works in progress include pieces on the International Court of Justice’s December 2022 decision in Chile v. Bolivia, as well as tribal sovereigns’ inclusion in transboundary water governance.

Professor Robison’s regular courses include Water Law & Policy (basic and advanced courses), International Environmental Law, and Federal Courts. He also enjoys teaching Federal Indian Law; Property Law; Land Use Law; and Human Rights, Natural Resources & International Law: Latin America at the Crossroads. Beyond the classroom, Professor Robison has served on Master’s and Ph.D. committees for candidates in UW’s Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, Program in Ecology, and Geography and History departments. 

Professor Robison was honored to receive the UW College of Law’s Outstanding Faculty Award in 2022, as well as the Frank J. Trelease Award in Environmental and Natural Resources Law in 2021. The Chief Washakie Foundation conferred on him the Distinguished Leadership Award in 2019 for chairing the subcommittee that drafted UW’s first-ever Native American & Indigenous Affairs Strategic Plan. Professor Robison is also privileged to serve on the leadership team of the Water & Tribes Initiative and as a member of the Colorado River Research Group.
