Debbie Shoefelt

Debbie Shoefelt, credentials analyst and nursing academic advisor, was honored at the spring 2015 University of Wyoming Staff Recognition Day for 35 years of service to the University of Wyoming. Most of those 35 years were spent in nursing. Shoefelt has won many awards over the years for excellence, most recently the College of Health Sciences Outstanding Staff Award in 2014.


Professor Ann Wislowski

Ann Wislowski: Communication of Wisdom and Lillian Wald Awards recipient

Nursing faculty member, Professor Ann Wislowski, received the UW School of Nursing Communication of Wisdom award for her recent publication about wilderness nursing. Her article--currently in press with the "Journal of Nursing"--is titled, "Nurses gone wild: the role of nursing in wilderness medicine." / Wislowski also received the school's Lillian Wald award, which will help support her attendance at a meeting on wilderness nursing. Upon her return from the meeting, Wislowski plans to develop a case study for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. / The Lillian Wald Funding Opportunity is dedicated to faculty and staff professional development.

Debbie Shoefelt and LeAnn Amen-McConnell awarded Wald funding

Nursing credentials analysts and academic advisors Debbie Shoefelt and LeAnn Amen-McConnell received the School of Nursing's Lillian Wald award this spring. The funding enables them to attend the NursingCAS meeting in Boston this June to learn more about the national nursing application service. The UW School of Nursing began using the NursingCAS application service for several of the school's programs this year. / The Lillian Wald Funding Opportunity is dedicated to faculty and staff professional development.


Nursing Professors Mary Anne Purtzer and Jenifer Thomas

Professors Mary Anne Purtzer and Jenifer Thomas receive Humenick award

Professors Mary Anne Purtzer and Jenifer Thomas were awarded a Humenick Research Grant to continue their work on nursing leadership and health promotion on the Wind River Indian Reservation. The grant is provided by the Sharron S. Humenick Nursing Enrichment Fund, established by Humenick in 1999, seven years before her death. The purpose of the Fund is to support faculty academic enrichment. Humenick served as professor at the University of Wyoming and Virginia Commonwealth University schools of nursing, and was editor of the "Journal of Perinatal Education."
