Dean Vandel Participates in Academic Leadership Fellows Program |
 |
John Vandel, Dean of the UW School of Pharmacy completed one year as a Dean Facilitator for the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Academic Leadership Fellows Program (ALFP).
The Academic Leadership Fellows Program is a year-long program designed to develop the nation's most promising pharmacy faculty for roles as future leaders in academic pharmacy and higher education. Participants include faculty and administrators from pharmacy colleges and schools.
The four-session program includes self-assessment, peer assessment, in-depth leadership development, team building, exploration of legislative and public policy issues critical to pharmaceutical education, administrative competencies development, and application for leadership experiences.
As part of the program, Fellows were assigned to one of five groups of six or more individuals with a Dean Facilitator. Each group was charged to develop a proposal and work plan for addressing a policy issue in health professions and higher education for their group project. Groups worked on their chosen project over the course of the fellowship year. The project work will result in a manuscript suitable for publication in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education.
Dean Vandel's group consisted of Cynthia J. Boyle (University of Maryland), Charles R. Breese (Appalachian College of Pharmacy), Alekha K. Dash (Creighton University), Michael J. Gonyeau (Northeastern University), Angela M. Hill (Florida A&M University), and J. Christopher Lynch (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville). The group's project and manuscript was entitled "Assessment of Student Attitudes toward Student Leadership within Pharmacy Programs."
