Class of 2013 Orientation and White Coat Ceremony

The Class of 2013 participated in a Pharmacy Student Orientation program August 19-20 for first-year professional pharmacy students. After being welcomed by Dean John Vandel, the incoming class learned about aspects of the professional program and met with their advisors. Maria Bennett, manager of pharmacy student services, and JoAnn Rule, student services administrative assistant, coordinated the two day orientation.

Presenters and topics included Dean Vandel (History of Pharmacy), Maria Bennett (Student Services, Policies, WyoWeb, Curriculum and Degree Checks), Janelle Krueger, M.S., R.Ph., (Professional Experience Program, E-mail Etiquette), Carol Kobulnicky, Ph.D., (Professionalism), Dennis Dreher (Academic Honesty), Melissa Hunter, Pharm.D., (Drug Information), P4 Stevi Buck (Student Advocacy) and representatives from Pharmacy student organizations. (see photos below).

Following the orientation program, the students participated in the White Coat Ceremony where they were "coated" by Professors Bruce Culver and Robert Scalley, then congratulated by Dean Vandel. The white coat presented to the students is symbolic of the students' professionalism and commitment to their future patients and colleagues. It stands for honor, integrity, duty, accountability, respect for others, excellence and altruism.
