The third Annual College of Health Sciences Health Fair took place October 17 in the Wyoming Union. The theme of this event was "Fall Into Good Health," and it was organized and hosted by the UW chapter of Phi Lambda Sigma, the national Pharmacy Leadership Society.

The goals of the health fair were to promote collaboration among the various groups within and outside of the college, as well as to provide a variety of valuable, free health-related information and services to the university and Laramie communities.

Participating groups included students and faculty from the Pharmacy, Nursing, Communication Disorders, Dental Hygiene, and Kinesiology & Health Promotion programs, as well as pre-professional health students and many others from the university and Laramie communities.

Health information was available on over thirty different subjects and ranged from safe sex and stopping AIDS, to cardiovascular disease and cancer prevention, to immunizations and healthy exercise and nutrition habits. Services included: bone density scans for osteoporosis; blood glucose, cholesterol/triglycerides, and hemoglobin A1C measurements; rapid HIV testing; medical acupuncture; blood pressure readings; medication reviews; and others. In addition, blood laboratory results interpretation was available for those who took part in the blood draw that was held on October 3.

The health fair was very well-received, with an estimated three hundred students, faculty, and community members taking advantage of the free services and information.

Phi Lambda Sigma would like to thank everyone who participated and helped make this fair a success. Phi Lambda Sigma would also like to thank ASUW, the College of Health Sciences, the UW School of Pharmacy, Walgreens, RxPlus Pharmacies, and Broadway Pharmacy for their generous monetary support, without which none of this would have been possible.
