NCPA Medicare Project - Part of American Pharmacists' Month Student Activities

Printable Article Email this Article

The University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy student chapter of the National Community Pharmacists' Association (NCPA) gave a presentation on Medicare to members of the community on November 1, 2006. Elizabeth Higdon spoke on the concept of Medicare Part D, who is eligible, how the plan works, and how to find an appropriate plan. NCPA members are available to help eligible individuals sign up for Medicare plans. Whereas some companies provide this service for up to $60, NCPA provides this service free of charge. NCPA members who helped with this event included Kendra VanGrinsven, Elizabeth Higdon, Sara Yennie, Ashley Colyer, Krista Tafoya, Shelley House, Amanda Hardy, and Shanna Geslin.
Near the end of November, the NCPA will take a more proactive approach to educate community members by reaching out to citizens through an appointment-based counseling service at a local senior center. Enrollment for Medicare Part D is open until December 31, 2006; education services will be available until that date. For more information regarding the NCPA Medicare Project please contact Sara Yennie at syennie@uwyo.edu.
