Wyoming Pharmacy Students Awarded Undergraduate Research Fellowships

The Wyoming National Science Foundation Experimental Program to Simulate Competitive Research (NSF EPSCoR) awarded Fall 2006 Undergraduate Research Fellowships to several UW students working in UW School of Pharmacy research labs.

The highly-competitive fellowships for independent research projects are awarded to top undergraduate students in the fields of: biological, physical and social sciences; engineering; mathematics; health sciences; and students in science and mathematics education. 

The following students from Bruce Culver's research lab received fellowships: 
Christopher Peryam, from Casper, Wyoming, pharmacy major, "The Relationship of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor in an Animal Model of Depression" and Kayla Luhrs, from Ketchikan, Alaska, zoology and physiology major, "Behavioral and Pathological Changes in a Biogenic Mouse Model of Alzheimer's Disease," Bruce Culver, adviser.

Students from Jun Ren's lab who received fellowships are:  Michael Burnett, from Powell, Wyoming, electrical engineering major, "Investigating the Effect of Acetaldehyde Dehydrogenase on Acetaldehyde Toxicity in Myocytes," and Caitlen Rode, from Rock Springs, Wyoming, Spanish major, "Role of Nitric Oxide on Cardiac Contractile Function," Jun Ren, adviser.
