Learn about SER Scholarship Opportunities

By Pam Henderson, Academic Advising Manager

It's scholarship time! We are provisionally awarding the Nielson Energy Scholarships to our incoming Fall 2019 class. This family of scholarships provides a unique opportunity to students declared in the Energy Resource Management and Development major and admitted to the University of Wyoming.

Our awards are based on merit as well as need. Let's define what we mean by merit and need.

  • Merit means scholarship are awarded based on your academic performance in high school including your GPA, ACT or SAT score.
  • Need is the difference between the cost of attendance and the amount you and your family can afford to pay, known as Expected Family Contribution (EFC). EFC is determined by the federal processor after evaluating the information you provided on your FAFSA.

Many of us tend to think cost of attendance is tuition, fees and books. But, it includes much more - room, board, supplies and other educational expenses.

Be sure to file your FAFSA if you have not already done so. It is an important component of your financial aid package. Visit our Scholarships and Financial Aid website to learn more.

A separate application is not needed for the Nielson Energy Scholarships. You must be admitted to the University of Wyoming and declared in the Energy Resource Management and Development program to be considered for the Nielson scholarships.

We thank the Nielson family of Cody, Wyoming for their generous donation in support of our students.

Check your mail in the coming weeks for a letter from us about your Nielson Energy Scholarship.
