Baker Hughes Rig Counts
Baker Hughes reports the following rig counts actively exploring for oil and natural gas.
- U.S. rig count is up four rigs from last week to 1049.
- The U.S rig count is up 74 rigs from last year, with oil rigs up 63 and gas rigs up
11.
- The Wyoming rig count is up to 34.
- Colorado’s rig count remains at 35.
- New Mexico is down 1 rig to 111.
- North Dakota remains at 58 rigs from last week.
- Texas is back down to 511 rigs.
Bloomberg Opening Prices
- West Texas Intermediate (WTI) opened at $52.66
- Brent Crude opened at $62.11
- Natural gas opened at $2.65
Energy Information Administration
- This year’s annual energy outlook shows that generation and capacity of electricity
is heavily influenced by natural gas prices, and that future electricity generation
will depend largely on natural gas prices. Learn more here.

- Refined coals production reached record highs in 2017, and is expected to continue
to increase despite the decline in US coal consumption. Learn more here.
Wyoming Public Media
- Five teams from Gillette, Wyoming are competing to demonstrate technology devoted
to converting carbon dioxide into a usable product. These groups meet with experts
in the field to review their designs, and have the opportunity to meet with vendors

- This year Anadarko Petroleum is expected to enter into the Wyoming Powder River Basin
to explore the area for further development. This could be a major turning point for
the Basin and Anadarko. Learn more here.
- With Wyoming’s third-quarter coal production down from last year, Peabody Energy is
reducing their coal production from the North Antelope Rochelle mining complex by
10 million tons. Peabody is taking the ‘value of volume’ approach to its coal production.
