Baker Hughes Rig Counts
Baker Hughes reports the following rig counts actively exploring for oil or natural gas.
- U.S. rig count is up 2 rigs from last week to 1,051 rigs, with oil rigs up 3 to 857
and gas rigs down 1 to 194
- The U.S. rig count is up 76 rigs from last year’s count of 975, with oil rigs up 59
and gas rigs up 17
- The Wyoming rig counts has gone up to 37
- Colorado’s rig count remains steady at 35
- New Mexico is down to 109 rigs
- North Dakota is down one rig to 57
- Texas has gone down to 509 rigs
Opening Prices from Bloomberg Energy on February 15
- West Texas Intermediate (WTI) opened at $54.48
- Brent Crude opened at $61.06, slightly down from $64.86
- Natural gas opened at $2.57

U.S. Energy Information Administration
- The EIA has recently updated its methodology and production volume estimates for shale
gas and tight oil plays in the U.S. to include seven additional plays. This update

to decrease in the coming decades according to this year’s Annual Energy Outlook.
