I earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish many years back, and worked at numerous jobs during the time I raised my 3 children, including elementary school teacher, business owner, and music director. I returned to school to earn my MSW in 1995 and worked for 5 years as a clinical social worker and then clinical director at a residential teen pregnancy center. In 2003, I earned my PhD from the University of South Carolina, specializing in gerontology. My dissertation surveyed a national sample of gerontological social workers about their use of spiritual interventions in their practice with older adults. Wonderfully, the results indicated that social workers use ethical decision-making to guide their practice in the area of client spirituality.

My husband and I enjoy camping, hiking, and singing.
