Martha S. Williams, Ph.D. is a professor of social work and former dean (1991-1999) of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Wyoming. Prior to 1991 she was dean and professor at the School of Social Work, The University of Texas at Austin. During her many years of service at the University of Texas campus (1955-1991), she served for three years in an administrative position at the Institute of Higher Education Management at the UT System Office. She also received her degrees (BA, MA, Ph.D.) from the University of Texas at Austin. In Wyoming as dean she was involved in revitalizing the Advisory Council for the College and initiating the MSW degree, the WWAMI medical education program, WIND, the bachelor's of health sciences degree, and fund raising and building renovations for the new College of Health Sciences complex among other initiatives. She also organized annual College of Health Sciences conferences, research grant programs, and degree program reviews and needs assessments in Health Sciences.
 

Research Interests:
Recent research has concerned a follow-up study of 121 organizations to determine what factors have contributed to the advancement of women to higher-level management positions. Research in the last few years has also addressed factors that create policy development and policy implementation discontinuities in public service organizations.

 

Teaching:
Dr. Williams teaches research methods courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels at both Laramie and Casper campuses of the University of Wyoming. She has also chaired and served as a member of a number of theses/Plan II and doctoral committees in social work, nursing, psychology, education, sociology, and other related disciplines

 

Service:

Service at the University of Wyoming has included representation on the Graduate Council, the Academic Planning Council, the College and Division Tenure and Promotion Committees, the College Research Committee, and the Women and Minorities Council. Over the years she has also reviewed papers for publication for ten journals, and has been the principal investigator for 28 grants at both campuses. In Texas she served as co-chair of the Governor's Commission for Women. In Wyoming she served on the Governor's Wyoming Health Reform Commission and the Wyoming State Board of Education, Professional Teaching Standards Board.

She is a member of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and the American Psychological Association (APA).
