I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. I worked in a runaway shelter for teens and decided to attend graduate school to learn more about the bi-directional influences of different systems on children and families. While attending graduate school, I worked in mental health crisis intervention for people with severe and persistent mental illnesses. During this work, it became apparent to me that advocating on behalf of people with mental illnesses was extremely important. After earning a Ph.D. in Family Studies and Human Development, I taught in Human Development for six years integrating when I could curriculum based on mental illness. My passion for advocacy took over and I decided to go back to graduate school and obtain an MSW in social work in order to fully advocate for people with mental illnesses. As a researcher and clinician, I am devoted to this issue and enjoy teaching students to follow their passion in social work.

I enjoy playing basketball, softball, hiking, and fishing mostly to enjoy the outdoors.
