Curriculum Vitae

Biography

I am delighted to be the social work educator assigned to the Casper campus of UW.  My own distance learning during most of my student days allows me to empathize with the non-traditional and often tired-and-traveling students here in Wyoming!  I also relish the opportunity to represent the students and distance instructors who so often manage to get the work done, in spite of technical difficulties, weather, and less face to face contact than on a home campus.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish many years back, and worked at numerous jobs during the time I raised my 3 children, including elementary school teacher, business owner, and music director.  I returned to school to earn my MSW in 1995 and worked for 5 years as a clinical social worker and then clinical director at a residential teen pregnancy center.  In 2003, I earned my PhD from the University of South Carolina, specializing in gerontology.  My dissertation surveyed a national sample of gerontological social workers about their use of spiritual interventions in their practice with older adults.  Wonderfully, the results indicated that social workers use ethical decision-making to guide their practice in the area of client spirituality.

My husband and I enjoy camping, hiking, singing, and now, the lure of Casper Mountain and Alcova Lake!
