Oct. 3, 2008 -- Acclaimed dancer and choreographer Cleo Parker Robinson, will teach classes while in residence Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 6-7, at the University of Wyoming
She is the founder and executive artistic director of the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble (CPRD), an affiliate of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
Robinson will teach a master class, "Cleodance," both days from 2:10 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center's Mains Dance Studio. The master class is open to all dance majors to participate, but others are strongly encouraged to attend as observers
Robinson will also present a seminar Monday, Oct. 6 , from 3:45 p.m. to 5:10 p.m. on her experience as an artistic director of a dance company. Both the dance classes and seminar are free and open to the public.
Based in Denver, the CRPD is widely regarded as one of the nation's top modern dance companies. The ensemble aims to foster appreciation, access, and the development of new audiences for dance and to educate audiences about the rich heritage and ancestral gifts on which this predominately African American ensemble draws.
CPRD also operates a year-round school, a program called "Season of Schools" that serves the Denver Public School District, an International Summer Dance Institute, a 300-seat Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theatre, and an outreach program for at-risk youth called Project Self-Discovery.
Robinson's residency is supported by the UW Fine Arts Artist-in-Residence endowment.
