Feb. 20, 2001 -- University of Wyoming Department of Theatre and Dance faculty and
students received top honors at the recent Kennedy Center/American College Theatre
Festival (KC/ACTF) and Northwest Drama Conference (NWDC) in Anchorage, Alaska.
UW results are:
ACTF one act winner, Region VII student playwriting competition -- Todd McCullough,
Green River.
ACTF Region VII faculty nominee for Actors Center Fellowship in New York City -- Leigh
Selting, UW professor.
ACTF honorable mention, student lighting design for "Dead White Males" -- Mike Mahlum,
Denver.
In the ACTF Irene Ryan competition, to determine the region's top male and female
actors, winners were McCullough, best scene partner; Brian Slaten, St. Louis, Mo.,
first alternate; and Jed Schultz, Laramie, second alternate.
NWDC first place student lighting design for "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" --
Andrew Dooley, Sioux City, Iowa.
NWDC President's Award -- Ron Steger, UW professor.
Two plays, "Dead White Males," directed by Selting and written by associate professor
William Missouri Downs, and McCullough's "Local Celebrities," directed by UW professor
Lee Hodgson, were placed on the "short list" to be invited for the national festival
this spring at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
The selection committee already has viewed 53 of the country's top collegiate shows.
