April 27, 2006 -- Stephanie Lovell, a University of Wyoming theatre major from Enfield,
Conn., this month earned the national Mark Twain Comedy Acting Award at the Kennedy
Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in Washington, D.C.
Lovell was voted best comic performance in the Irene Ryan Evening of Scenes to earn
the $2,500 cash award. Founded in 1999 and supported by Comedy Central, Inc., the
distinction aims to foster the finest comic acting on the national level. John Astin,
best known for his work as Gomez Addams on the television series The Addams Family,
judged and presented this year's award.
The UW senior was among only 16 national finalists selected for the Irene Ryan Acting
Competition at the KCACTF. In addition to the Mark Twain Comedy Acting Award, Lovell
received the Margolis Method Summer Intensive Acting Fellowship. The Margolis Method
reflects 25 years of research and fosters ensemble awareness and improvisational skills
through rigorous physical and vocal technique.
Lovell's scene partner, Cheyenne Christian, a senior UW theatre major from Mitchell,
Neb., was awarded the National Stage Combat Workshop Fellowship at the KCACTF. This
summer Christian will enroll in a three-week intensive study of stage combat at the
University of Nevada.
