UW Offering Summer Theatre Apprenticeship Program

April 27, 1998 -- Six students will attend the Wyoming Summer Theatre High School Apprentice Program, offered through the University of Wyoming Department of Theatre and Dance from June 8-July 25.

Students selected for the theatre apprentice program are Angela Millhone, Douglas; Justin Combs, Rawlins; Melissa Moore, Breckenridge, Colo.; Jessica Storck and Elizabeth Kading, both Greeley, Colo.; and Thomas Martin, Helena, Mont.

Leigh Selting, UW associate professor and summer apprentice program director, says the experience is open to college-bound high school students who have completed their junior or senior year. Participants will work as actors, designers or technicians and receive three hours of college credit.

"This will be a full-time program, involving both day and evening experiences in conjunction with the semi-professional Wyoming Summer Theatre company," Selting says. "The apprentices will gain practical theatre experience in all areas of theatre production."

UW's summer theatre will have four productions. All apprentices will receive acting and technical experience in classes and production work in directing, stage management, costumes, scenery, lighting, sound, props and publicity. They also will take a college class taught by UW theatre faculty with guest professional seminars by visiting theatre artists; and participate in field trips to the Colorado Shakespeare Festival and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
