Professor Kay Persichitte,
Dean, College of Education
My administrative responsibility provides the leadership and support to prepare teachers, counselors, school administrators, and other school personnel for positions in public education in Wyoming, throughout the nation, and the world. Our undergraduate teacher education programs incorporate content area courses from the various colleges on campus with extensive pedagogical preparation and field experiences. Our graduate and post-baccalaureate certification programs cover a broad range of professional practice and professional development opportunities. Graduates of the College of Education are prepared to deal with youth growing up in a rapidly changing world. Programs are experiential, collaborative, outcomes-based, and technologically supported. Emphasis is placed on professional ethics, a commitment to life-long learning, and respect for all individuals in our culturally diverse society. The College of Education is vested in many school partnerships and we are deeply committed to preparing competent and democratic professionals for public school settings. I am fortunate to work with an outstanding faculty and excellent students! I began my career as a high school mathematics teacher before moving to higher education. I have extensive experience and background in curriculum and program development, accreditation, standards-based instruction, telecommunications systems and distance instruction, and preservice teacher technology integration. I am particularly interested in contemporary issues of school renewal, school partnerships, and teacher education policy. This is a challenging time for teacher preparation in the US, but teachers and effective schools have never been more critical to the health and future of our nation than today! Our responsibility is great...
I live in Laramie with my husband, Andy, and our family dog, Shelby. As often as possible, we spend time with our daughter, her husband, and our son, who serves in the US Navy. Drag racing and all manner of auto events provide us the respite from daily responsibilities.
