Honors College Dean/Director Position Opening

The University of Wyoming (UW) invites applications from dynamic academic leaders for the position of Director of the UW Honors Program. Nominations are also welcome. This position is open only to current UW tenured, tenure-track, or extended term lecturer faculty. The position is a full-time, 12-month administrative appointment with a reporting line to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. The initial five-year term is renewable. The Director of the Honors Program is a member of the Deans and Directors Council. More information about Honors at UW may be found at:

Honors at UW is at a pivotal point in its history. Recent external and internal reviews have been completed, and a task force has provided a set of implementation recommendations to move the Program to an Honors College. The College will provide an incubator environment for the most talented, competitive students at UW. The Director/Dean will lead the program into an era of new curriculum development and expanded opportunities for Honors students to participate in experiential learning. The Director/Dean must be able to push the boundaries of knowledge and set new standards of innovation and excellence.

The Director/Dean will be expected to:

  • Provide strategic visioning and mission formulation for Honors, including re-envisioning of the curriculum as the program moves to a College. Change management will include future visioning for faculty resources and structure, recruiting and admissions, and growing a new set of programming and experiential learning opportunities for Honors students.
  • Establish and lead Honors Program Faculty Advisory Council
  • Plan and manage curriculum, including recruiting faculty, departments, and colleges for participation
  • Manage personnel and resources associated with Honors at UW, including oversight of Honors Scholarships, the Honors House, and the Guthrie House.
  • Work with UW Admissions to recruit outstanding students
  • Provide vision for retention and student success initiatives for Honors students

Required Qualifications

  • Current tenured, tenure-track, or extended term appointment at UW
  • Experience in academic fundraising and external relations
  • Experience managing personnel and resources
  • Documented ability to work and communicate with colleagues across disciplines
  • Understanding of and experience in recruiting
  • Experience in developing experiential, curricular, and curricular experiences

Preferred qualifications include

  • An earned doctorate or terminal degree
  • A record of academic scholarship and/or creative work
  • Experience academic administration
  • Experience in advocating for an academic program with administration
