So How Do I Decide On An Exploratory Track?

Exploratory Studies Logo
Well, you've come to the right place! The purpose of this information is to help you begin the process of identifying your academic, career, and life goals, which can help you find an Exploratory Track that matches you. To get started, ACES recommends that you better understand yourself by considering your interests. Reflecting on your interests is only one step in the process of clarifying your academic, career, and life goals (*see below for more information). At ACES, we use Holland codes to help you start to understand how your interests relate to different majors and careers. There are six Holland codes that classify people's interests: Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional, and Realistic (see the chart below for more information about each Holland code). A great way to clarify what your interests are is to follow this link to take a Work Interests Assessment through Focus 2 Career (you'll need to use the access code uwcareer):
Focus 2 Career Assessment
Remember to use the access code uwcareer when you're creating an account.
After you've taken the assessment and have revealed the Holland Codes that reflect your interests, write them down. Then find those codes in this document and consider which Exploratory Track best reflects where you might be headed in your academic life and eventual career path:

*Remember: Considering your interests is one of many important steps (other steps include exploring your personality, values, abilities, relationships, self-concept, etc.) in finding an ideal major, career, and life passion. Additionally, choosing an Exploratory Track does not limit you to a particular major or career. If you feel you need more in-depth help in exploring your academic, career, and life goals, you can set up an appointment with a career counselor by clicking on the following link.
