Hometown: Cheyenne, Wyoming

College: B.A. Major in English, Minor in Creative Writing, University of Wyoming

Favorite college memory: I started to really appreciate backpacking around the time that I entered the university. My first trip, I traveled to Utah with a few of my friends. We packed in over Thanksgiving and were fortunate enough to see only one another, the entire weekend. Thanksgiving night, we shared a buffet of assorted snacks and meal packs that each of us had brought. Cooking out of one pot, we passed the meal about and shared stories, happy to be with one another, watching the sun drop. I wouldn't have met these individuals or had the confidence to begin backpacking without first opening myself up to UW.

Hobbies outside of work: As you have already picked up, I love to hike and explore the outdoors. In the winter, after a day in the snow, I really enjoy coming back to paint; however, when the weather is especially nice you can find me riding my motorcycle and spending time with friends.

Favorite place on campus: The Alma Doke McMurry Reading Room holds a truly special place in my heart. As a student, I felt at home in this space. I was an English major and I nested in that room, spending hours typing or reading. Often, on a particularly draining day, I would also take short naps in the chairs, waking to find the bustle of class life passing by, outside the spacious windows. Refreshed, I'd kick off to my next class, always grateful for The Reading Room.

Advice to incoming students: Take advantage of every opportunity you are given. My biggest regret is that I didn't experience more that UW has to offer, especially in regards to our study abroad programs. I believe the most valuable educations one develops comes from the experiences we share. I encourage you to get involved on campus and travel, open yourself up to new opportunities because as cliche' as it sounds, it’s true. You'll never quite have the chance to do so, ever again. Not like you do in college.
