Transfer Students

Admissions

Are you a transfer student?

If you have attended college courses after graduating from high school, you are a transfer student. If your college courses were completed prior to your high school graduation or the summer prior to enrolling at UW, (for example: concurrent enrollment) then you are considered a new first time freshman. Please review the freshman admissions requirements, if you are not a transfer student.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

If you're currently attending another institution or have attended another institution in the past, you'll need:
  • A cumulative, unweighted college GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

  • Completion of 30 or more semester credit hours

    • If you have less than 30 semester credit hours, you will also need:

      • A cumulative, unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

      • A minimum composite ACT score of 21 or SAT* score of 980 (math/critical reasoning combined)

      • Completion of success curriculum while attending high school

    • If you are under the age of 21, you will also need:

      • A minimum composite ACT score of 21 or SAT* score of 980 (math/critical reasoning combined)

*For 2017 applicants, the University of Wyoming will accept both the new SAT and the old SAT. For admission, we will consider the highest composite score. If you took both assessments, we will use concordance tables provided by the College Board to compare scores. When using old SAT test scores, the University of Wyoming does not use the writing section.

How to Apply

Step 1: Submit an application

Step 2: College Transcripts

  • Have one official transcript from EACH previously attended institution sent directly to the UW Admissions Office.

  • Transfer students with less than 30 completed college credits will need to send official high school transcripts and ACT or SAT test scores.

Have all transcripts and test scores sent to:

UW Admissions
1000 E. University Avenue, Dept. 3435
Laramie, WY 82071
  • UW is able to receive electronic official transcripts through a secured process. If the electronic transcript service requires an email address, please use admissions@uwyo.edu.

Step 3: Check Application Status

  • To check your application status, please log back into your application using your email address as your username and the password you created. On the "Applications" tab, select "Review" next to your most recent application. On the lower left hand side there will be a link to "Check Application Status". This is your status with the Admissions Office.

  • After we have received all necessary documents to review your application, your application will be processed. You will receive an email after your admissions decision has been made. You will also receive a letter in the mail, if you provided your address.

  • If you are accepted, the Office of the Registrar will evaluate all your transfer credits. After each transcript is evaluated you will receive an email notification.
