UW Offers Support to Students Affected by Colorado Fires  

 

  • The university encourages members of the UW community impacted by the fires who have questions or need support to email Vice President for Student Affairs Kim Chestnut at k.chestnut@uwyo.edu. You can also contact the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Academic and Student Programs Office at uwyo_ag@uwyo.edu. If you know of someone impacted by the fires please encourage them to reach out. 

  

Reflections 2022 Request for Student Articles  

 

  • Description: Reflections is the research magazine of the University of Wyoming College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. In an effort to convey the interesting and exciting research being done in the College, copies are sent to legislators in Wyoming and Washington, D.C., university administrators, other state experiment stations, alumni, donors, stakeholders, and many others.

UW Food Science Club 

  • Description: If you are interested in the food or meat industry, consider joining the food science club. We as a club have the opportunities to tour food manufacturing and processing plants, attend national and regional professional food and meat science meetings, and raise funds through community catering events. As a club member, you will establish a greater base knowledge about the food industry professionals. If you are interested in being a part of our club or would like more information, please join us for a free dinner at our first meeting of the semester on Tuesday 2/1 6:30-7:00 pm. Feel free to bring a friend! 

 

Cowboy Joe Handler 

  • Description: We are looking for two new handlers who want to be a part of this long time University of Wyoming tradition! As a Cowboy Joe Handler, you represent the University of Wyoming at athletic events, major Wyoming shows such as Cheyenne Frontier Days and Wyoming State Fair, and other notable university activities such as Homecoming and Family Weekend. In addition to interacting with the public, handlers are responsible for escorting Joe to these events, training, and grooming Cowboy Joe.

  GrowingG Internship Program 

  • Description: The GrowinG Internship Program is now accepting applications for 2022. This program is part of a broader project offering education and practical experience to beginning farmers and ranchers across Wyoming. Goals of the internship program are to provide hands-on internships at working farms and ranches to Wyoming’s beginning farmers and ranchers each year in cooperation with state producer organizations and educational institutions. Applications to become involved are now being accepted from potential interns and site hosts.

Nielson Ranch 2022 Summer Internship  

  • Description:Nielson Ranch Co is a progressive cow-calf operation located in the Sandhills of Nebraska. You will learn ranch management concepts as well as day to day skills potentially including; calving, branding, haying, fencing, feeding, horseback cattle handling, cattle processing, estrus synchronization and artificial insemination.

Natrona County Weed and Pest Seasonal Tech 

  • Description: Come join a friendly, hard working group of outdoor loving people who enjoy hiking and protecting our lands from invasive species. Kansas State University Department of Communication & Ag Education Producer/Director 

  • Description:We are looking for a highly motivated communication specialist to produce a daily agricultural media program featuring the research-based information generated by K-State Research and Extension programs, agents and specialists. As producer/director you will: 

    • Host the long-running Agriculture Today radio broadcast/podcast. 

    • Communicate the impact of Extension programs and research on behalf of the agriculture industry in Kansas and surrounding states. 

    • Create digital audio content for the K-State Radio Network and collaborate to promote communication support for KSRE and the College of Agriculture.

Wyoming Sugar Company Agriculturist II 

  • Description: Supervise agricultural operations for Wyoming Sugar Company to ensure optimal acreage and production of high-quality sugar beets to be utilized in the production of sugar. Assist in the supervision of maintaining and operating receiving stations and equipment in the most efficient manner. Monitor sugar beet storage piles for minimal loss and maximum sugar recovery when processed. Be directly involved in monitoring and advising growers regarding agronomic practices for high quality sugar beet production. This position will also act as a liaison between sugar beet growers and Wyoming Sugar Company

Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust Conservation Intern 

  • Description: The Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust (WSGLT) and the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources are partnering to recruit a University of Wyoming student to serve as the 2022 Conservation Intern. The Intern will gain in-depth knowledge and experience in land conservation while furthering WSGLT’s mission of conserving Wyoming’s working agricultural landscapes. The Conservation Intern will work with Dr. Drew Bennett in the Haub School during part of the Spring and Fall semesters and with WSGLT’s stewardship team to monitor the 107 conservation easements across 287,000+ acres of Wyoming ranchlands during the summer.

Assistant University Extension Educator Goshen County, Torrington, Wyoming 

  • Description: This position is located in Torrington, Wyoming. The Educator will primarily serve communities in Goshen County, but will also contribute to regional and statewide educational programs.   • Description: WyoScholarships is the UW scholarship system. Students are strongly encouraged to complete the General Application each year to qualify and be considered for a wide range of scholarship opportunities. Students who have been awarded a first-year or transfer scholarship commitment are required to complete the General Application each year to fulfill their respective commitment. In addition be sure to complete the conditional application for College of Agriculture and Natural Resources to be consider for our Brand of Excellence Awards.

2022 WYOMING NASA SPACE GRANT & NASA EPSCoR FELLOWSHIP, INTERNSHIP, AND FACULTY GRANT OPPORTUNITIES 

  • Description:The Wyoming NASA Space Grant Consortium sponsors education and research programs in the state of Wyoming in support of NASA missions, serving as a link between citizens of the state and NASA programs. It is one of 52 consortia representing each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Our programs include research fellowships and internships for students at the University of Wyoming and Wyoming community colleges, scholarship programs for community college students in STEM majors, grants for college and university faculty, and educational resources and programs for Wyoming K-12 students and teachers.

Wyoming Wildlife Fellowship 

  • Description The management and conservation of wildlife and fisheries resources relies on professionals with extensive scientific knowledge, a nuanced understanding of how the public interfaces with natural resources, and a mastery of skills ranging from estimating population trajectories to pulling trailers to talking with landowners. The Wyoming Wildlife Fellowship strives to promote well-rounded and well-prepared wildlife and fisheries professionals through an immersive, supportive, hands-on education and work experience.

The Stewart Family Service Award  

 

  • Description: The School of Politics, Public Affairs, and International Studies, in partnership with the Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement Office, seek proposals from students for up to a $5,000 stipend to complete an independent service-learning/service-research project. The stipend will be awarded through a competitive process that is open to all UW students. Guidelines for proposals are broad as the specific needs being addressed should be community-defined. The selected student(s) must be involved in an applied community service or research project that addresses a real world need or challenge on a local, state, national or global level. Students from all fields of study are encouraged to submit proposals.

NILE Foundation Scholarship Program  

 

  • Description: For over 30 years, the NILE (Northern International Livestock Exposition) has awarded scholarships to deserving FFA and 4-H students. The criteria being that applicants have been leaders in their respective programs, excelled in the classroom, participated in NILE events and actively involved in their communities. Given the extended unprecedented times, the NILE Foundation's Scholarship Program will continue to support youth in Agriculture with limited fundraising opportunities. "Supporting youth in agriculture is a cornerstone of the NILE Foundation's mission," says Rick Hamilton, Interim General Manager of the NILE. "It is of the utmost importance that we continue to do our part in assisting youth achieve their goals. Whether they are attending a university, junior college or trade school, we look to help them excel."
