University of Wyoming Student Organization Application By-Laws BY-LAWS FOR ANTHROPOLOGY GRADUATE STUDENT COUNCIL (AGSC)
Each active member of the organization has the right to participate in all organizational activities and vote for executive officers. A member charged with conduct not in accord with the purposes of the AGSC or prohibited conduct (as defined in the UW Student Code of Conduct) and against who such charges are sustained after due and proper hearing before the Executive Committee, may be expelled from membership by a two-thirds vote of the entire Executive Committee. Any student whose membership in the AGSC has been terminated in any manner shall forfeit all interest in any funds or other property belonging to AGSC and may not use the organization’s name in connection with any further activities. The fee for membership is $25.00 and is due by the last Monday of September. In order to be an active member, one must pay dues. In-active members may still attend meetings, but are not allowed to participate in activities and vote. Executive Officers will be elected during the first week of May and the term will continue through the first week of May the following year. Any active member can run for office and a majority vote will elect each officer. Voting will commence through secret ballot and be tallied by the President. Elected officers considering resignation must submit a letter to the AGSC indicating their desire to resign and enumerating the reasons for the resignation. The officer will be required to hold office and perform all duties thereof until a replacement has been elected. Members of the Executive Committee must preside over all meetings and have the authority to organize activities. The Executive Committee will form auxiliary committees as necessary. The organization will follow proper parliamentary procedure throughout all meetings. A two-thirds majority of active members is required for constituting a quorum. The by-laws will be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of the active members.

University of Wyoming Student Organization Application Anthropology Graduate Student Council (AGSC) Date Original Constitution Ratified: (September 8, 2008) PREAMBLE
The purpose of the Anthropology Graduate Student Council (AGSC) is to provide a unified graduate voice within the Department of Anthropology, University of Wyoming, and to provide an outlet for ideas and suggestions pertaining to the graduate program and the graduate students within it. ARTICLE 1._______ NAME Section 1. The name of this organization shall be the Anthropology Graduate Student Council (AGSC). ARTICLE II._______ PURPOSE Section 1. The purpose of the organization shall be: to function as a student organization to encourage participation to promote greater graduate student cohesion and communication and welcome new graduate students into the Department of Anthropology, University of Wyoming to reflect the purpose of the organization’s foundation to foster increased communication between graduate students and faculty in Anthropology to address program and other issues that directly affect graduate students Section 2. The organization will abide by established University policies. ARTICLE III.______ MEMBERSHIP AND DUES Section 1. An eligible member must be enrolled as a graduate student within the Department of Anthropology, University of Wyoming.
Section 2. Membership shall be maintained by the payment of dues, which are established by the Executive Committee. A member may remain in the organization without paying dues. Section 3. The Anthropology Graduate Student Council (AGSC) admits students without regard to their race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and other activities generally accorded or made available to members of the organization. ARTICLE IV._______ OFFICERS Section 1. The Executive Committee/Officers of the organization shall consist of a The duties of the President shall be to announce meetings, set the agenda of the meetings, call meetings to order, moderate discussion, and maintain order at all meetings. It will also be the duty of the President to organize elections for the Anthropology Graduate Student Council (AGSC) officers. The duties of the Vice-President shall be to perform all duties of the President in her/his absence and assist the other officers as necessary. It will also be the duty of the Vice-President to coordinate the chairpersons of any specially formed committees. The duties of the Secretary shall be to keep an accurate, permanent record of the organization including minutes of all meetings, to take charge of all correspondence, to notify the Branding Iron, and post information regarding meetings and activities. The duties of the Treasurer shall be to keep an accurate and complete record of all monetary transactions and to collect club dues. The Treasurer must disperse Fund money in accordance with regulations of the University. The duties of the Faculty Representative shall be to serve as a liaison between the graduate student body and faculty of the Department of Anthropology, University of Wyoming. The Faculty Representative represents the Anthropology Graduate Student Council (AGSC) at departmental faculty meetings and provides comment on behalf of the Anthropology Graduate Student Council (AGSC) on all agenda items except those pertaining to graduate student funding or graduate assistantship assignments. The duties of the Web Manager shall be to maintain the Anthropology Graduate Student Council (AGSC) webpage and provide a graduate student bios update to the Department of Anthropology, University of Wyoming, during the month of September of each year. The duties of the Wyoming Contributions to Anthropology (WCA) Editor shall be to as editor for WCA. It will also be the duty of the Wyoming Contributions to Anthropology (WCA) Editor to appoint the Wyoming Contributions to Anthropology (WCA) Editorial Board and appoint any subcommittees necessary to facilitate in the publication of the Wyoming Contributions to Anthropology (WCA). Other officers can be chosen at the discretion of the club.
ARTICLE V. OPERATIONS Section 1. Election of officers The officers shall be elected each spring semester to allow time to prepare the budget, revise the constitution as needed, and prepare registration forms for the coming year. Officers are elected and activated in May for a period of one year. All officers need to be enrolled as on-campus graduate students within the Department of Anthropology, University of Wyoming, for the duration of their term. The candidate shall be nominated in the following manner: nominations from the floor. Voting shall be by ballot, as decided by the organization. A simple majority of all votes cast shall be necessary for election. Following each selection or change of any officer/advisor, the Dean of Students or designee will be notified in writing. ARTICLE VI.______ MEETINGS Section 1. The Anthropology Graduate Student Council (AGSC) shall meet once a month during the fall and spring semesters, as decided by the organization. Special meetings may be called by the Executive Committee when necessary.
ARTICLE VII.______ FINANCES Section 1. The Anthropology Graduate Student Council (AGSC) is funded through ASUW, membership dues, and fundraising. In the event that the organization is dissolved, the funds will be dispersed accordingly. ARTICLE VIII. AMENDMENTS Section 1. Proposed amendments shall be submitted in writing and read at a regular Section 2. This Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority of those members at the meeting. After University recognition is granted, any proposed changes in the approved constitution or bylaws must be presented to the Student Organization Committee for approval, and such changes shall not be effective until approval is granted. ARTICLE IX.______ RATIFICATION Section 1. A two-thirds majority of those present at the first meeting of the newly formed organization will be necessary to ratify this Constitution. |
