Wyoming History Day Special Awards
To be eligible for a Special Award, a student must comply with the following rules:
- If your entry is in the Historical Paper Category send an electronic copy of your paper to the address below. Your copy needs to arrive by Monday, April 9, 2012.
- To be eligible for one of the awards marked with an asterisk (*) you must submit an electronic copy of your process paper and annotated bibliography to the address below, regardless of the category of your entry. This copy needs to arrive by Monday, April 9, 2012. Note that this copy is in addition to the 3 hard copies of these documents needed for the regular judging.
- Students who wish to be considered for the Wyoming State Historical Society Scholarship must meet the eligibility criteria listed on the WSHS Scholarship page and must complete the application procedures outlined on the WSHS Scholarship page and must complete the application procedures outlined there by April 9, 2012. The WSHS Scholarship information can be found by clicking on its tab which is located on the Wyoming History Day Scholarships and Awards page found on the WHD Web site.
We are now using on-line registration for the state contest and so we are asking students to only indicate if they wish to be considered for a special award marked with an asterisk (*) by submitting 3 copies or an electrnic copy of their process paper and annotated bibliography ahead of time and/or complete the special application for the WSHS Scholarship. Students should check the awards for which they wish to be considered while they complete their registration on-line.

- American Heritage Center/University of Wyoming Scholarship - Best individual senior division entry - $1,000
- Clara Jensen Award - Best overall entry on Wyoming History - $100
- Colonial Dames Heritage Award - Outstanding entry dealing with family history - $100 savings bond
- DAR History Award - Best Junior Division and Best Senior Division entries - $25, a medal and a certificate
- Florence Sommers Jensen History Award - Outstanding entry on a subject dealing with Wyoming Women, Homesteading, Ranching, or Schools - $100
- Fort Laramie National Historic Site Award * - Best junior and senior division entries that integrates Trans-Mississippi history (fur trade, emigrants, Native Americans, frontier military history) - $100
- Fred & Flossie Graves Homestead Award - Best entry featuring an aspect of homesteading - $100 bond
- Gerald & Jessie F. Chambers Wyoming History Day Award - Best Junior and Senior Division entries - $500
- Giving Voice Award - Best entry relating to under-represented voices - $100
- Heart Mountain Foundation Award * - Best entry dealing with Heart Mountain Wyoming - $100
- Jurisprudence Award * - Best junior and senior division entries dealing with jurisprudence or legal issues - $250
- Liz Byrd Cultural Diversity Award - Best entry which represents an aspect of cultural diversity or human rights - $100
- Roger Williams International Award - Best entry dealing with international issues - $100
- Simpson Institute Award - Best junior and senior division entries dealing with political history and leadership - $250
- Taco John's International Scholarship Special Award - Senior in high school planning to attend a Wyoming college - $3000
- UW American Indian Studies Award * - Best entry dealing with American Indian History - $100
- UW Gender and Women's Studies Award * - Best entry on a woman or women in history - $100
- UW History Department Award * - Best entry that exemplifies outstanding research - $150
- William H. Barton Award - Best use of oral history in an entry - $100
- Wyoming Association of Professional Archeologists Award * - Best entry on archeological issues - $100
- Wyoming Public Employees Association Award * - Best entry dealing with labor issues - $500 bond
- Wyoming State Archeological Society Award * - Best entry on archeological issues - $100
- Wyoming State Historical Society Scholarship - Scholarship for 12th grade student who intends to attend Wyoming community college or the University of Wyoming - $1000 for 1st, $500 for 2nd and/or 3rd
- Wyoming State Museum Volunteers Award - Outstanding junior and senior division exhibits - $100
