UW Students are invited to get involved in volunteer projects. For the Great Hospital Adventure, volunteers perform a puppet show about Health Occupations to K-2 students (Elementary Schools). The grocery delivery project involves  the delivery of groceries Riddley's Supermarket to the Laramie Senior Home. TechHelp volunteers visit the Laramie Senior home once every week to assist residents with tech-related problems.

Volunteer Highlight

From the leaders of the volunteer projects

sharronSharron E. Davis is, a UW Kinesiology & Health major from Cody, WY helped resideat the Laramie Senior Home, by coordinating the delivery of groceries from Albertsons to their facility. Residents and staff  of the facility truly appreciate the help of the volunteers.

"Delivering groceries is a great way to give back to the community, as well as meet new people. Drew and I have been delivering groceries for almost a year and a half now and one of our favorite memories was walking into one of the lady’s room that we deliver the groceries to and  learning a new recipe.  She was really excited to share this recipe with us and it’s a really great feeling to know that the simplest things can brighten a person’s day."

Tappy

As a pre-medical student, the Great Hospital Adventure was a fun and fullfilling way to give back to my community. Over the past few semesters I have had the privilage to work and perform for GHA and the local students. Throughout this time, I have seen the difference that the program makes for the students. It is a great way to introduce health care professions to young groups of hopeful and excited students that have the world ahead of them. It is a great opportunity that is not only fun for the students, but equally as enjoyable for the presenters. I come away from our presentations feeling fullfilled and knowing I made a difference, even if it is just for one child. The teachers are more than welcoming to our group and enjoy the presentations and conversations that come from it. I highly recommend this group to any premedical student, as it is a wonderful and fun way to promote health care within the community.

The TechHelp experience is one that I have come to love. It is not rigorous work in that most of the people that come just want help figuring out emails or something else like Facebook. There is not a large crowd that comes, but just a few regulars. That makes it a much more personal experience. I have come to call several of the residents my friend and even have one who has “adopted” me as her grandson. It is a truly rewarding experience for anyone who enjoys spending time with someone who wants to learn and connect. I feel like to several of the residents it is more than just them wanting to learn something and having you help them connect to their family, but they also benefit by having someone to talk to and to share their life with. I have enjoyed every second of TechHelp over the years that I have been fortunate enough to be a part of it.
