Healthcare Careers 2012 Summer Camp The purpose of the camp, according to AHEC Director Marivern Easton, is to provide students with an opportunity to explore numerous healthcare careers through interactive activities and observation. “Our hope” says Easton “is that students will be motivated to work hard in high school and think seriously about pursing a healthcare career.” Wyoming, like many rural states, is facing a critical shortage of healthcare workers. This shortage will worsen as the baby boomer generation ages. The key, according to Easton, is to identify, recruit, train, and retain Wyoming residents. “If we can generate enthusiasm among high school aged students and support them as they pursue education and training opportunities, we have a much stronger possibility of eventually employing them as healthcare workers throughout Wyoming.”
Students were unanimous in their enthusiasm from last year's camp. Said one camper, "It was awesome to be able to explore ALL health careers, even the ones that I thought I wasn't interested in." See what other campers had to say - click here.
