Each certificate program has individualized admissions requirements available on the program page.

Learn more about music certificates

Music Entrepreneurship - This certificate provides a basic understanding of music marketing principles and practical hands-on experience that allows one to enter the workforce with a marketable skill set in the areas of arts promotion and management. A certificate may be pursued on its own or in conjunction with any university degree program.

Audio Technology - The certificate provides a basic understanding of audio principles and practical hands-on experience that allows one to enter the commercial music workforce with a marketable skill set. Students will learn how to record and manipulate recorded sounds as well as provide live sound reinforcement for live concerts or events. A certificate may be pursued on its own or in conjunction with any university degree program.

Reclamation and Restoration Ecology Certificate

Learn how to restore and rebuild America’s landscapes by earning a certificate in reclamation and restoration ecology. People who have earned this certificate have gone on to serve as park rangers, field research assistants and wildlife and animal ecologists working for state and federal agencies.

Geospatial Information and Science Technology (GIST)

Several GIST certificates at the undergraduate and graduate level are available at the University of Wyoming.

Undergraduate Certificate in GIS — A 10-credit certificate that will provide you with powerful tools for collecting, managing, and analyzing geospatial data using Geographic Information Systems.

Undergraduate Certificate in Remote Sensing — This nine-credit certificate teaches you how to process and interpret data collected by satellites, aircraft, and drones for applications ranging from ecology to energy development.

Graduate Certificate in GIS — This 15-credit certificate gives you a rigorous academic credential in Geographic Information Systems and spatial analysis, which have become important parts of everything we do—from navigating using GPS to solving complex place-based problems across disciplines.

Graduate Certificate in Remote Sensing — Remote sensing scientists use data collected by satellites, aircraft, and Unmanned Aerial Systems (drones) to address questions important for agriculture, natural resource management, wildlife management, global change science, energy development and many other fields; this 15-credit online certificate gives you a valuable foundation in remote sensing and digital image processing.

Graduate Certificate in Unmanned Aerial Systems — Earn this 11-credit online certificate and learn to safely fly Unmanned Aerial Systems (drones) and collect and process the data that they collect; demand for trained drone operators is growing rapidly in agriculture, natural resource management, construction, energy, transportation, business and many other fields.

Construction Management Certificate

If you’re a non-degree-seeking student seeking to advance in the building industry, the Certificate in Construction Management is designed for you. The certificate program is a suite of six courses designed to develop professional skills such as scheduling, cost estimating, and project management. A certificate in construction management allows certificate holders to work on vertical construction (buildings) or horizontal construction (infrastructure).

Land Surveying (Cadastral Surveying Certificate)

The UW Land Surveying Program provides surveying specific education, by surveyors, for surveyors. Instructors for this program are working professionals with years of experience and are focused on the skills needed for licensure preparation and daily practice. This certificate program meets the Wyoming Board of Registration’s requirements to be a Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT), leading to the Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) designation. Land surveyors are in high demand, due to an aging workforce.

American Studies Undergraduate Certificate

Prepare for entry-level work in community organizations, non-profit organizations, historical, cultural or arts organizations with the American Studies Undergraduate Certificate. This certificate program can enrich professionals in the fields of law, business, engineering, healthcare and education. The certificate program allows students to choose from undergraduate and graduate courses in American Studies and any field of interest at UW. The program encompasses two semesters of full-time work: a total of at least 24 semester hours, or approximately eight courses.

Many of the jobs (even before the pandemic) allowed for remote work, and that trend continues to grow as the need for certified cybersecurity professionals rises.

School District Superintendent

UW’s online School District Superintendent Certificate program offers both the educational background and skills necessary to develop the strategic direction and operational systems to tackle the multilayered challenges confronting America’s public educational system. The program combines a robust curriculum of educational leadership courses with an internship in two districts, so you acquire the executive background and operational skills you’ll need to serve in rural or urban school districts. The program also meets the requirements of the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board for the district superintendent endorsement.

Whether you are already employed by a community college or seeking a community college-related career, UW’s online community college leadership program offers a strong background in leadership studies along with courses that address the pressing issues modern community colleges and students face. The UW Community College Leadership Certificate is an online, 15-credit program to help you advance into community college management and leadership roles.

The certificate program can lead to K-12 ESL Endorsement from the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board to add to your elementary or secondary teaching license. The Online Instruction Certificate at the University of Wyoming is a four-class, online program that will ground you in the theory and best practices of online education while also giving you experiences solving problems and designing educational solutions using current technologies.

Play Therapy

The University of Wyoming Play Therapy Certificate Program will ensure you will have the skills required to decode that language and help the youngest and most vulnerable regain their voice. Those who have completed the program can provide their clients with additional services that will help children better express what is troubling them when they do not have the verbal language to express their thoughts and feelings. The online post-master's certificate program at UW was designed to meet the 150 clock training hours required by the Association for Play Therapy to become a Registered Play Therapist or a School-Based Registered Play Therapist. The program is designed for completion in one academic year with cohort groups beginning annually in the fall semester.

Literacy is the foundation that a child's education is built upon. The Literacy Endorsement Certificate Program is designed to serve K-12 teachers who wish to obtain the Wyoming Reading Endorsement. Students will examine theories, programs and practices in the teaching of literacy, the evaluation of literacy development, and the integration of literacy across curriculum areas.

Teaching Elementary School

If you hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, you qualify to take advantage of this alternative pathway towards earning your Wyoming teaching license. You will study educational theory and best practices while also acquiring hands-on teaching experience through practicums and student teaching. Qualified candidates can complete UW’s graduate certificate in Teaching Elementary School in just a few semesters. If you are ready for school building leadership and passionate about fostering a healthy school environment, you can prepare to become that kind of principal through UW’s experiential school principal certificate program. Offered online, UW’s school principal graduate certificate program allows you to acquire the knowledge and experience necessary to earn a Wyoming's Professional Teaching Standards Board endorsement as a K-12 principal while maintaining your current teaching position.

Teaching Secondary Education

Those who hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university can take advantage of this alternative pathway to gaining their teaching license in Wyoming in one of fifteen subject areas. You will acquire a foundation in educational theory and teaching methods, while also gaining real-world teaching experience through practicums and student teaching. Qualified candidates can complete UW’s graduate certificate in Teaching Secondary Content in as little as three semesters (summer, fall and spring) including student teaching.
